Uhuru-Ruto Rift Reignited

President William Ruto has launched a fresh attack on his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing the former Head of State of backing opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a public address in Uasin Gishu County, President Ruto claimed that the retired president was financing and mobilising political opponents in an attempt to unseat his administration. Although he did not mention Uhuru Kenyatta by name, the remarks were widely interpreted as a reference to his predecessor.

The President also criticised his political rivals, saying they lacked credible development records and had failed to offer Kenyans a convincing alternative agenda.

Earlier, President Ruto presided over the passing-out parade of more than 5,000 Kenya Defence Forces recruits at the Moi Barracks Recruits Training School in Eldoret.

During the ceremony, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Kenya’s security and building a modern, professional military as part of the country’s long-term development agenda under Vision 2060.

Ruto’s latest remarks revive the long-running political fallout between him and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, whose relationship deteriorated ahead of the 2022 General Election after Kenyatta endorsed opposition leader Raila Odinga instead of his then Deputy President.

The political rivalry continues to shape the country’s evolving alliances as preparations for the 2027 General Election gather momentum.
