Gatundu South Member of Parliament Gabriel Kagombe has announced his exit from the United Democratic Alliance, accusing President William Ruto’s administration of failing to honour key campaign promises made to residents of Gatundu South.
Speaking during the burial of community leader Phyllis Njoki Kuria in Karangi village, Gatundu South, Kagombe said residents had supported the Kenya Kwanza administration but had seen little in return.
Kagombe singled out the stalled rehabilitation of Mau Mau roads, saying the roads have remained in poor condition despite repeated appeals to the government.
He also criticised the government over its handling of the tea sector, particularly proposed levies that he says will further burden farmers.
The MP said he could not continue seeking re-election on a UDA ticket when, in his view, the party had lost the confidence of his constituents.
William Ruto has lied to us for long , and we cannot go into next year’s general elections on a UDA ticket because our people have totally cut ties with him and the party.” Kagombe explained.
He further accused the government of failing to protect tea farmers from what he described as exploitative taxation, arguing that farmers are already struggling with high production costs.
Kagombe warned that the government’s failure to deliver on its promises could have political consequences in the 2027 General Election.
He declared, “A government that cannot deliver its promises to the people is one term.”The Gatundu South MP has not yet revealed which political party he plans to join as he prepares to defend his parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections.
