Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of using inflammatory political rhetoric that could undermine national unity as political activities ahead of the 2027 General Election intensify.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Thursday, Murkomen claimed Gachagua’s recent public remarks were designed to stir division and pressure political leaders into joining his party.
Murkomen said, “I have been following with concern and shock Rigathi Gachagua’s public pronouncements and talks in recent days.” He further added that Gachagua’s statements were “carefully crafted to sow division, incite violence and bully politicians.”
The Interior CS also dismissed what he described as attempts by Gachagua to position himself as a regional political kingpin, saying such politics threaten national cohesion and should not be allowed to divide Kenyans.
Gachagua, who has recently intensified consultations with opposition leaders as he seeks to build support ahead of the 2027 General Election, has yet to issue a formal response to Murkomen’s latest remarks.
The exchange marks the latest escalation in the political rivalry between the two leaders, highlighting growing tensions as the country moves closer to the next General Election.
