Leaders call for stronger Kenya – Somalia border security
Leaders call for stronger Kenya–Somalia border securityCalls are mounting for Parliament to investigate security along the Kenya–Somalia border following renewed attacks linked to the militant group Al-Shabaab.
A petition submitted by a Member of County Assembly urges lawmakers to review the country’s border security strategy and assess whether additional resources are needed to protect residents and security personnel in the affected regions.
The petitioner says, “Parliament should urgently investigate the country’s border security and recommend measures to better protect Kenyans living in the affected areas.”
The government has maintained that security operations remain active, saying, “Security operations along the Kenya–Somalia border remain active, and agencies will continue efforts to safeguard the country.”
Parliament is expected to consider the petition as debate continues over the most effective measures to strengthen security and protect communities living near the Kenya–Somalia border.
