Southern Bypass Closed For Marathon
Motorists in Nairobi should prepare for major disruptions this weekend as the Southern Bypass will be temporarily closed for the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that the bypass from Ole Sereni Interchange to Kikuyu Town will be shut from midnight on Saturday, October 24, to 2pm on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
The closure is to allow safe passage for thousands of runners participating in the annual marathon, which uses the bypass as part of its main route.
In a notice issued on Monday, KeNHA advised motorists to plan ahead and use alternative routes.
Those traveling from Kikuyu to Mombasa Road have been urged to use Waiyaki Way, while travelers from Kikuyu to Karen should use Dagoretti Road.
Motorists heading from Karen to Mombasa Road were directed to Langata Road, and those from Dagoretti to Mombasa Road to use Waiyaki Way or Ngong Road through Mbagathi Way.
KeNHA said the primary alternative remains Mombasa Road (A8) from Ole Sereni Interchange through Uhuru Highway.
Road users are asked to obey traffic signs and follow instructions from traffic marshals and police officers deployed along the affected routes.
