A 21-year-old woman’s death in Nairobi has sparked outrage, as police pursue her boyfriend over suspected murder and fresh allegations of threats against her younger siblings. The case has renewed questions about the safety of young women in relationships and the alarming consequences of domestic violence.
Police in Nairobi are investigating the suspected murder of 21-year-old Feruz Hussein, who was allegedly suffocated by her boyfriend, Nelson Ambia, following a domestic dispute in the Githurai-Sunton area of Kasarani.
According to reports, Ambia allegedly used a pillow to suffocate Hussein before recording the incident and sending the video to her family. The disturbing allegations have drawn public attention as the suspect is reportedly still at large.
The matter was reported at Sunton Police Station in Kasarani Sub-County on September .Documents cited by the police indicate that Hussein’s body was recovered from a residence in the Githurai-Sunton area, with the case recorded as a suspected murder.
The case has taken another troubling turn following allegations that the suspect threatened Hussein’s younger siblings, Shadia, 19, and Malik, 15. The family has reportedly expressed fears for their safety as efforts to locate the suspect continue.
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has offered KSh 50,000 for credible information leading to Ambia’s arrest. Another well-wisher, identified as Mustapha Konvict, reportedly pledged an additional KSh 20,000, bringing the total reward to KSh 70,000.
Reports indicate that the suspect may have been spotted in Kakamega County, although his whereabouts have not been independently confirmed. Members of the public have been urged to report any information to the police rather than attempt to confront him.
The incident has reignited debate about domestic violence and the protection of women in intimate relationships, with growing calls for stronger interventions against violence that can escalate into fatal encounters.
As investigations continue, the central questions remain whether the suspect will be apprehended and what circumstances led to Hussein’s death.
