Kariobangi Sharks and Mombasa United meet on Tuesday in the decisive second leg of their promotion-relegation playoff, with the winner securing the final place in the 2026/27 FKF Premier League.
The return leg is being played in Nairobi after the opening match was held in Mombasa on October 1. The two clubs agreed to settle the dispute through a two-legged playoff following mediation led by Football Kenya Federation.
The playoff was arranged after uncertainty surrounding the composition of the 2026/27 top-flight league. The dispute had contributed to delays in starting the new Premier League season.
Both teams were also allowed to use newly registered players in the playoff, removing one of the major obstacles that had delayed the agreement.
Tuesday’s return leg will therefore determine which side takes the remaining Premier League position and brings an end to the promotion-relegation dispute.
