Kenyan singer and songwriter Nikita Kering’ has added another major award to her collection after winning Best Female East Africa at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards, AFRIMMA, held in Dallas, United States.Nikita emerged victorious in a competitive category that included fellow Kenyans Njerae and Bridgit Blue, as well as artistes from Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Uganda.
The win brings her total number of AFRIMMA awards to five. She previously won two awards in 2019 and another two in 2021, establishing herself as one of Kenya’s recognised voices in contemporary African music.Nikita has built her career around R&B, soul, Afro-pop and pop music. Her songs have often explored relationships, personal experiences and social issues.
Her musical journey has also included appearances on international platforms such as BBC 1Xtra and Spotify’s EQUAL Africa programme.The latest recognition comes shortly after the release of her EP The Lick Back, a project she described as being about “revenge.” She did not attend the AFRIMMA ceremony but acknowledged the award on social media with a simple message of appreciation.
Other major winners at the ceremony included Davido, Tems, Phyno, Fally Ipupa and Real Warri Pikin.Nikita’s latest achievement adds another chapter to her growing music career and places her among the Kenyan artistes receiving recognition on the continental stage.
