Saboti Member of Parliament and People’s Renaissance Movement leader Caleb Amisi has claimed that he has already prepared an impeachment motion against President William Ruto but is unable to move it forward because no other Member of Parliament is willing to sign it.
Amisi made the remarks while expressing frustration with what he described as Parliament’s failure to effectively hold the Executive accountable.
According to the outspoken legislator, his impeachment motion is ready, but he has not secured the political backing required to have it formally introduced and considered by the National Assembly.
Amisi argued that the current Parliament lacks the political will to impeach a sitting president, accusing lawmakers of failing to fully exercise their constitutional oversight role over the Executive.
The Saboti MP said impeachment is one of the constitutional mechanisms available to Parliament to hold a president accountable. However, he maintained that without enough MPs willing to support the motion, his proposed impeachment attempt cannot progress.
The remarks come after Amisi had previously called publicly for President Ruto’s impeachment, saying he was prepared to spearhead the process.
However, the proposal has faced resistance from other political leaders, with questions being raised over whether the motion could attract enough support in the National Assembly to successfully pass through the required stages.
Amisi now appears to be shifting part of his focus towards the 2027 General Election, where he hopes to build the strength of his People’s Renaissance Movement and support the election of leaders who, according to him, would be willing to independently hold the Executive accountable.
He has argued that Kenya needs a Parliament that is not afraid to challenge the government whenever leaders are believed to be acting against the interests of ordinary citizens.
The latest statement also comes as Amisi intensifies grassroots mobilisation for his political movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
During a recent political tour, Amisi outlined the People’s Renaissance Movement’s agenda, saying the party would only enter into alliances with political groups that share its values and political principles.
He has identified national unity, youth empowerment, women’s participation in leadership, the fight against corruption and respect for the Constitution as some of the key issues his movement intends to champion.
Amisi has also maintained that his political movement is seeking to build support across the country and not become associated with one particular region or community.
For now, however, his planned impeachment motion against President Ruto remains on hold, with Amisi insisting that the document is ready but that he is yet to find another MP willing to append their signature and help push the matter forward in Parliament.
