Police in Kayole have arrested two suspects following an operation targeting dealers believed to be trading in stolen electronics.
Officers acting on intelligence raided a premises in the area and recovered 10 functional mobile phones, 18 non-functional phones, and 3 laptops.
Police say the items are suspected to have been obtained illegally and are being processed as exhibits.
The two suspects are currently being held at Soweto Police Station as detectives complete investigations before presenting them in court, authorities have not yet released their names.
Kayole residents have for months complained of rising phone snatching and break-ins, with stolen devices often resurfacing in local markets within hours.
Police say this operation is part of a wider crackdown to disrupt networks that buy, repair, and resell stolen gadgets.
“These kinds of raids help us cut the supply chain,” a senior officer at Kayole Police Station said. “We urge members of the public who have lost phones or laptops to visit Soweto Police Station to help with identification.”
The National Police Service has intensified operations across Nairobi to deal with street robberies and the illegal trade in mobile devices, noting that recovered electronics are often traced to syndicates operating in estate markets.
Investigations are ongoing to establish whether the suspects are linked to other theft cases reported in Kayole and neighboring estates.
