The wait is finally over. The Premier League returns tomorrow, Friday, August 21, with reigning champions Arsenal opening the 2026/27 campaign at home to newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium.
The encounter will officially launch another 380-match race for English football’s biggest domestic prize, with Arsenal beginning their attempt to retain the title they won last season after ending a two-decade wait for the championship.
The opening round will also introduce three promoted sides — Coventry City, Hull City and Ipswich Town — to life back in the top flight.
The first match is scheduled for 10:00pm Kenyan time on Friday, giving Arsenal the responsibility of raising the curtain on a season that promises another intense battle at both ends of the table.

The meeting is significant because it pits two clubs with ambitions of competing near the top of the table against each other before either has had an opportunity to settle into the new campaign.
The Reds will be expected to challenge for the title, but Newcastle’s home advantage makes the fixture an immediate examination of the visitors’ readiness.
Manchester City also begin their campaign on Sunday, hosting Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium.
The Cityzens will be determined to reclaim the title after Arsenal’s success last season, making every early point potentially significant in what could become another long championship battle.
Tottenham begin away at BrentfordSaturday’s evening fixture sees Tottenham Hotspur travel to Brentford.
For Spurs, the opening weekend provides an opportunity to set an early tone in a campaign where consistency will be crucial.
Brentford, meanwhile, will look to make home advantage count and immediately frustrate one of the division’s established clubs.
The other Saturday matches see Everton host Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town welcome Sunderland and Nottingham Forest face Leeds United.

The fixture list has not been especially kind to the promoted trio.
Coventry face Arsenal before travelling to Manchester City in their second match, while Hull’s opening run includes Manchester United and Aston Villa before meetings with Chelsea and Newcastle. Ipswich face Sunderland first, followed by Manchester United and Liverpool.
That makes the opening weeks potentially important for their survival ambitions.
