Sifuna in Homabay
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi movement have dominated political headlines following their tour of Homa Bay County, which was marked by heightened political tensions and disruptions.
The opposition team encountered resistance as it moved through parts of the county, with reports of road blockades, attacks and clashes involving groups attempting to disrupt the rallies.
Despite the disruptions, Sifuna and other opposition leaders proceeded with their programme, addressing residents and mobilising support for the Linda Mwananchi campaign.
During the tour, Sifuna also drew attention to the state of infrastructure in Homa Bay, particularly the condition of roads.
He used his experience on the dusty roads to question claims of development in the county. The senator has also linked his political fallout within ODM to the arrest and death of Albert Ojwang, describing the incident as a major turning point in his relationship with the party.
The violence surrounding the Homa Bay rallies has attracted condemnation, with calls for political leaders and their supporters to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could undermine peace and national cohesion.
Sifuna and his allies, however, maintain that the Linda Mwananchi movement will continue with its nationwide mobilisation as opposition leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
