Kenyan TikTok creator Derrick Angwenyi Oyengo, popularly known as Derrick Omollo, was laid to rest in Marani, Kisii County, on Friday, September 18.
The 20-year-old Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology student died after reportedly falling into a quarry in Juja while fleeing from suspected thieves.
Omollo had developed a following on social media through humorous videos and content. His sudden death shocked his fans and fellow creators, particularly because he was still a young student with an emerging online career.
The burial ceremony brought together family members, friends, fellow students and other mourners who gathered to pay their final respects.
Emotional scenes were reported at the graveside, with Omollo’s mother breaking down as she mourned her son.
The circumstances surrounding his death have also raised concerns about the safety of young people and content creators in Nairobi and its surrounding areas.
Omollo’s death has left his family and online community mourning a young creator whose life and career were cut short.
